Medication Use Quality Continuing Education Program
PQA has expanded our educational offerings for healthcare professionals who are working to improve patient outcomes through safe and appropriate medication use.
Medication Use Quality is PQA’s online continuing education program. This program features courses dedicated to quality measurement and strategies to improve medication safety, adherence and appropriate use with an emphasis on real-world examples and best practices.
Each course is accredited for 2-3 contact hours for pharmacists. The entire Medication Use Quality Certificate is 15 hours on demand and includes two foundational core classes, three additional core classes and the elective, “Mastering Today’s Quality Landscape.” To complete the certificate, learners will participate in a live session and final exam.

Medication Use Quality Certificate
The Medication Use Quality Certificate is a PQA education training program for current and future healthcare quality professionals who are working to improve patient outcomes through safe and appropriate medication use.
Participants will receive advanced training in quality measurement and learn strategies for evaluating and improving quality with an emphasis on real-world examples and best practices. The program addresses top issues that will shape quality for years to come, including:
- Value-based care
- Equity and social determinants of health
- Health information technology
- Federal programs including Medicare and Medicaid
- Innovative pharmacist-provided care

This course will focus on value-based models of care where measures are implemented as part of measurement programs. Learners will gain insight into performance programs offered at the federal, state, and regional levels, and how commercial lines of business leverage quality measures as well as core sets of measures.

This course will introduce learners to foundational quality improvement concepts. It will focus on the Model for Improvement, evidence-based quality improvement strategies, and how performance measures can impact patient care and foster innovation. Faculty will also provide real-world examples of quality improvement projects and value-based care collaborations in payor, community pharmacy, and ambulatory care settings.

This course is designed to highlight measurement programs beyond the Medicare Part D Star Ratings. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is the single largest payer for health care in the United States. In addition to CMS, prescription medications are paid for by multiple entities, including commercial insurance. Mastering medication use quality requires an understanding of the entire landscape.

Enroll HereThis course will support learners’ understanding of how healthcare quality measures are specified and calculated. It includes learning resources on reading a measure specification, calculating the numerator and denominator, and understanding value sets. Application examples using PQA measures are covered throughout the course.
