PQA Workshop: Using the PQA Medication Therapy Problem Categories Framework in Practice will give participants the opportunity to work through realistic patient cases, compare approaches with peers, and learn from experienced faculty while building confidence and consistency in applying the Framework.
Learn by Applying the Framework
The workshop moves beyond reviewing the Framework to applying it in realistic, complex patient care situations.
Working through cases in small groups with experienced faculty, participants will:
- Apply the Indication → Effectiveness → Safety → Adherence approach to realistic patient cases.
- Identify, categorize, and prioritize medication therapy problems, including cases in which multiple problems may be present.
- Explore how clinical context and professional judgment inform Framework application.
- Connect identified medication therapy problems to patient-centered care planning, intervention, follow-up, and reassessment.
- Compare approaches with peers and learn from faculty insights about common challenges, misconceptions, and pitfalls.
The goal is not to teach pharmacists to think identically or suggest that every patient case has one predetermined answer. Clinical context and professional judgment remain essential. Participants will practice using the Framework’s systematic approach and standardized terminology while examining differences in how they apply the Framework and discussing their reasoning with faculty and peers.
