The August 6 PQA Quality Forum Webinar welcomed Amy Chuang, PharmD, Director of Clinical Pharmacy Programs at Cambia Health Solutions, and Yoona Kim, PharmD, PhD, Co-Founder and CEO of Arine, for an encore of their highly attended session at the 2026 PQA Annual Meeting.
Artificial intelligence (AI) remains an important area of interest for PQA members and stakeholders. The encore presentation highlighted how a multi-state health plan leveraged an AI-enabled medication optimization strategy to improve quality measures, reduce avoidable utilization, and generate meaningful cost savings. Dr. Amy Chuang and Dr. Yoona Kim shared how integrated clinical and pharmacy data, AI-driven risk prediction, and targeted pharmacy interventions helped identify high-need members, close therapy gaps, and improve medication adherence. Attendees also explored how continuous performance monitoring and real-time feedback supported ongoing program optimization.
Insights from a Multi-State Health Plan
Cambia Health Solutions is a nonprofit healthcare and technology company serving 4 million patients across seven regional health plans, including 75,000 Medicare patients. Prior to their collaboration with Arine, Cambia was approaching medication quality through three separately managed programs: Adherence, Medication Therapy Management (MTM), and Quality Gaps. Their inconsistent performance across quality programs, despite ongoing efforts, suggested a need for change.
How do you optimize quality while also reducing cost of care?
AI may not have been the initial answer Cambria was searching for, but Arine was able to provide a singular platform with the tools needed to improve care for their patients. Cambria adopted multiple solutions from Arine’s platform to identify members with high-risk medication problems, dynamically prioritize members for outreach, and track the impact of each intervention.

Arine is an AI-powered clinical intelligence platform that aims to improve patient outcomes and reduce healthcare costs by ensuring patients receive safe and effective treatment.
Medication AI tools, such as those offered by Arine, use AI to identify, predict, and intervene in medication-related issues. They aim to reduce problems, improve outcomes, and lower the total cost of care. The integrated data may include medical and pharmacy claims, costs, electronic health records (EHRs), social determinants of health (SDOH), among others. The information is used to identify and prioritize medication issues in real time, generate and evaluate intervention measures, and train models that can target and even predict ongoing needs.
AI Enables Care Teams to Spend Time Where It Matters Most
In addition to identifying and prioritizing medication interventions, Arine’s agentic AI tools can automate tasks such as refill requests, patient scheduling and reminder outreach, freeing up time for pharmacists to focus on high-impact interactions with patients and providers. All AI outputs, however, require explicit clinician review before they take effect.
Safe and Responsible AI Use
Rules and regulations around AI are still in varying stages of development. As a health company, Arine maintains an internal AI governance committee to ensure safe and responsible use. Human oversight, bias and fairness testing in models, rigorous pre-deployment validation, continuous monitoring, transparency and data privacy are upheld throughout Arine’s workflow.
