Beyond Completion: Rethinking the CMR for 2027 and Beyond

This guest blog is one in a series by sponsors of the 2026 PQA Leadership Summit on comprehensive medication review. PQA does not endorse, recommend or favor any product, service or organization that is a sponsor.

For years, the comprehensive medication review (CMR) has been an important component of medication therapy management. But as expectations for medication quality, patient engagement, and pharmacy-delivered care continue to evolve, there is an opportunity to ask a bigger question: What should a successful CMR accomplish in 2027 and beyond?

The answer goes beyond completing a review. The next evolution of the CMR should consider how to make the experience more valuable for patients, actionable for pharmacists, and meaningful for health plans, while maintaining the clinical quality at its core.

At the 2026 PQA Leadership Summit, Outcomes will bring health plan and pharmacy stakeholders together for an interactive session focused on that future. Rather than presenting a predetermined vision, the invitation-only focus group will create space for participants to discuss the opportunities, challenges, and priorities that should influence the next generation of medication management.

Just as importantly, we want to understand where stakeholders see both promise and pause. What are health plans and pharmacies most excited about as they look toward 2027? What concerns need to be addressed? And ultimately, what outcomes should define a high-quality medication review?

These questions cannot be answered by any one organization or sector. Advancing medication use quality requires perspectives from across the healthcare ecosystem and an honest discussion about what is working, what needs to change, and where there is room to think differently. If you’re joining us at the PQA Leadership Summit, come ready to share your perspective. Together, we can explore what it will take to make the CMR the center of a smarter, more efficient, and more valuable medication management experience. If you have questions, contact Outcomes.
