Five for Friday October 9: Celebrating Success in Advancing Medication Use Quality

Developing consensus-based measures requires the right perspectives and expertise. PQA members inform all phases of our measure life cycle, and your organization can play a major role in our work. Nominations are being accepted through October 30 for the Measure Update Panel and the Quality Metrics Expert Panel.

These standing panels review measures in development as well as current measures to ensure they remain viable for use. Subject matter experts are sought for these panels, but a great opportunity also exists for those newer to quality measurement. The PQA Quality Shadowing Program provides individuals the opportunity to observe nomination-based panels to gain knowledge that can support selection for future panels. This program is for individuals who are interested in quality but have not had the chance to participate in measure development and stewardship activities. Learn more below.

We also highlight our members’ perspectives on technology, diabetes care and driving better outcomes. If you have news you’d like for us to spotlight in an upcoming Five For Friday, send us an email!

— Richard Schmitz, PQA Chief Engagement Officer

Harnessing Technology to Enhance the Patient Experience

Tanvi Patel, vice president and general manager of Amazon Pharmacy, explores the recent innovations that extend the company’s reach and impact in healthcare. She addresses the expansion of same-day prescription delivery to 4,500 communities across the United States, new programs designed to help people taking GLP-1s, and Amazon’s approach to patient care.

Improving Diabetes Care

AdhereHealth‘s Chandra Osborn addresses how diabetes care improves when support adapts to real-life changes, removing barriers and sustaining daily habits beyond reminders, education, and one-time interventions. “As health care moves toward outcomes-based performance, health plans need to think beyond whether an intervention occurred and ask a more consequential question: Did it help create a behavior that lasted?”

Connecting Pharmacies and Payers to Drive Better Health Outcomes

Rosalyn Otting from PQS by Innovaccer details how to close gaps between patients seeking better outcomes and pharmacies seeking recognition for their services. Embracing the core pillars of EQUIPP, including ease of use, active engagement, and expanded earnings, enables pharmacy teams to improve patient care while driving sustainable revenue.

Accepting Self-Nominations for the MUP and QMEP

PQA is accepting self-nominations for the Measure Update Panel (MUP) and Quality Metrics Expert Panel (QMEP). The deadline to submit nominations is October 30, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. ET.  All self-nominations must be submitted through MyPQA.

The MUP is a standing, nomination-based panel of subject matter experts that reviews PQA-endorsed measures to ensure they continue to align with current clinical evidence and guidelines and that the measures remain viable for use. The QMEP is a standing, nomination-based panel of subject matter experts that reviews measure specifications and updates, measure testing plans and testing results, and assesses measures for endorsement and retirement consideration by PQA membership

PQA is also accepting nominations for the PQA Quality Shadowing Program through October 30. This opportunity is designed for early career professionals and individuals who are interested in quality but have not had opportunities to participate in formal PQA measure development and stewardship activities. Individuals selected will shadow either MUP or QMEP in 2027.
